When Should I Use Pricing Overrides?

Understand the Process to Decide if a Pricing Override is Best

Use the Tabular View to view your pricing next to that of multiple competitors or quickly override multiple dates with different prices. If you want to view pricing by product or customize the displayed data (like LRV, Forecast, or Capacity), use Calendar View.

What Help Do You Need With Pricing?

Steps to Manage Pricing

  1. Click and then Pricing.

  2. Tabular View displays if it's set up as the default in Preferences. Otherwise click .

  1. If your property uses linked products, group products, or independent products, select to view more than one Product.

  2. To change the period from the default 14 days, click From and To and select your desired dates.

  3. If you set up Inventory Groups, select one to limit the displayed Room Classes.
  4. Select a specific Room Class to view other Room Types.
  5. Click the filter to change the view, for example, to display only dates with pricing changes.

Note: if no prices display for a linked product, it can be because the product has a advance booking requirement. For example, with a 15-day advance booking minimum, no prices display for the 14 days that follow the system date, because the product can't be booked.

  1. Click the filter to change the information displayed in the Tabular View.
  2. Select up to five Products that you want to view.
  3. Select if you want to display linked products by Price or Adjustment.
  4. Select specific Competitors to display next to your prices.
  5. Limit the dates that G3 RMS displays with any of the below selections:
    • Under Dates With, select a condition, for example, dates with a price change.
    • Select a Day of Week to view pricing data only for selected days.
    • Select an override checkbox to show dates with active Overrides. See Icons for details about override types.
    • Select one or more Restrictions, for example, when LRV is greater than price. See Icons below for more information.
  6. Select what Additional Information you want to see, for example, On Books or pricing of the default competitor. See Additional Information for details.
  7. Select Save as default to display this selection each time you open the Tabular View for this property.
  8. Click Apply to save the filters. Click Reset to return to the default view.

All pricing overrides can have unintended consequences. Be sure you are familiar with the Best Practices for Overriding Pricing.

  1. If needed, change your pricing data selections, for example the dates or Room Class.

    Note: With the default Room Class selection All, you can override the Final Price only for the Base Room TypesClosed The one room type in each Room Class on which the system bases its pricing for the other room types in the Room Class.. To override non-Base Room Types, select a specific Room Class.
  2. If you use linked productsor group products, and have many Room Class that you want to apply the same adjustment to, select Linked Products: Adjust All Room Classes.
  3. In the table, click the cell for the date, product, and room type that you want to override.
  4. To add an override, type the value:
  5. Press the Tab key to navigate to other room types and to the next day. Unsaved changes are highlighted in yellow.
  6. Click the icon to revert a change. Click Cancel to revert all changes.
  7. Click the notes icon and enter an explanation for the override. That helps you decide later if you still need overrides. A saved note displays with a check mark .
  8. Click What If to see the results of your override before saving. For more information, see What If.
  9. Click Save.
    The dates with overrides are highlighted in pink and display the Floor and Ceiling override icons . See Understand how G3 RMS Applies Overrides in Tabular View.
  10. G3 RMS warns you that the Final Price changes only after the next processing. To send new pricing overrides to your selling system immediately, click Upload.
    Note: the same applies to linked or group products when you override the Base ProductClosed The rate code that is the starting point for the price of linked products. The linked products are child products of the Base Product. G3 RMS calculates the price for the Base Product, then determines the price for its children by adjusting the Base Product price.. To see the new Final Price for linked or group products immediately, click the flag and start a Sync.

  1. If needed, change your pricing data selections, for example the dates or Room Class.

  2. In the table, click delete for the date, product, and room type for which you want to remove the override.
  3. Click the icon to revert a change. Click Cancel to revert all changes.
  4. Click What If to see the results of your override before saving. For more information, see What If.

  5. Click Save. The Unsaved Changes icon is removed.
    The price is unchanged, G3 RMS reviews the price in the next processing.

Data Details

Icon Description
The icon next to the product describes its type. Independently Priced , Linked Optimized , Linked (user defined), or Group .
The Base Room Type for the Room Class. G3 RMS bases its pricing decision for all other room types in the Room Class on the Base Room Type. The Base Room Type is set up in Pricing.
The pink highlight means that a pricing override exists. It displays together with the below icons that tell you which type of override exists.

A Ceiling pricing override exists for the date. Point to the icon to see the value. A Ceiling Override lets G3 RMS select the optimal price at or below, but not above, the ceiling that you set. Any override in the tabular view is a combined Ceiling and Floor override, see Understand how G3 RMS Applies Overrides in Tabular View for details.

A Floor pricing override exists for the date. Point to the icon to see the value. A Floor Override lets G3 RMS select the optimal price at or above, but not below, the floor that you set. Any override in the tabular view is a combined Ceiling and Floor override, see Understand how G3 RMS Applies Overrides in Tabular View for details.

A Specific pricing override exists for the date. Point to the icon to see the value. Specific pricing overrides should be rare and you can apply them only in the Calendar View. See Understand how G3 RMS Applies Overrides in Tabular View.

Group Floor Override. Only available if you use the Group Floor Management module.
The Final Price of the Base Product is below the configured fixed price of a Rate Protect product, thus lowering the price of the Rate Protect product based on the adjustment.
Unsaved Changes. You added or removed one or more overrides. Either Save or Cancel the changes.
or The price increased or decreased since the last Processing. Point to the arrow to see the previous price.
LRV Greater Than Price

The price for an arrival date and Room Class is restricted due to LRV. Note that price may be restricted on a day when the pricing decision is below LRV as a result of stay-through demand. The pricing decision for each day is used by both one-night stays and guests staying through that night. G3 RMS might select a pricing level that is below LRV for a single day to encourage more stay-through demand.

Displays next to an override that breaks your Price Ranking setup.
One or more Special Events exist for the date. Point to the icon to display the event details.
Click to open the Summary window. The pricing summary shows some of the factors that led to the system’s pricing decision. For a more detailed review, follow the link from the Summary window to Investigator .

Final Price

The final pricing decision that G3 RMS sends to the selling system.

Final Price considers Rounding Rules, the Minimum Change Value, Offsets, non-room Supplements (if set up), and, if you are in a country with tax-inclusive pricingClosed Tax-inclusive pricing applies in countries where quoted and booked prices have to include taxes like a Value-Added Tax (VAT) or Goods and Services Tax (GST). If you are not in a country with tax-inclusive pricing, taxes are added to pricing only at the point of payment. In G3 RMS, tax-inclusive pricing is enabled and configured in Property Specific Configuration., the tax that you set up. See Final Price Calculation for a visual overview of how these factors impact pricing.

Note that if you applied a pricing override, Final Price equals the override value. G3 RMS sends override values regardless of whether the change meets your Minimum Change Value rules or is outside the price range defined for the season in Ceiling/Floor.

Product Name

The Final Price for the selected Product. When you click the cell it changes to the Adjustment. You can also set the filter to always show Adjustment values.

The Adjustment is the amount that the product's price adjusts from the Base Product's price, as set up in the Defaults or Seasons tab. This is the value that you override.

For User-Defined Products, it's a fixed or percentage adjustment, based on the product's Definition. For Optimized Products and Group Products , it is a percentage range.

Additional Information

Click the filter to display the following Additional Information:

Detail Description
Adjustment

For linked and group products, the fixed or percentage adjustment of the Base Product's price. The adjustment value displays under the Final Price.

Note: Products defined as With Package (fenced or unfenced), display no value.

Available Capacity To Sell The total number of guest rooms at a property, minus Out of Order rooms, plus Overbooking, minus On Books. Or, Authorized Capacity minus On Books. This value is the number of rooms that the system can sell before the property is sold out.
Authorized Capacity The total number of guest rooms at a property, minus Out of Order rooms, plus Overbooking. Or, Effective Capacity plus Overbooking.
Average Price For Independent Products, G3 RMS calculates this for a stay arriving on the selected occupancy date and the configured Minimum Days for Length of Stay of the Product.
Competitor

The price for the default competitor and from the default channel for each Room Class, if available. For example, the competitor with the median rate as reported by the Global Distribution System (GDS). Your Competitor Display settings control the rate that displays. The channel in Channel Settings controls the channel from which the default rate is taken. For properties in countries with tax-inclusive pricing, the competitor's price includes the tax percentage that you set up.

Effective Capacity The total number of guest rooms at a property, minus Out of Order rooms.
On Books The number of rooms sold as of the current system date, at the property level.
Optimal Price The raw pricing decision that is the output of optimization, by room type.

The system calculates the Optimal Price for each Base Room Type of each Room Class with the goal of maximizing revenue overall. The price is constrained by the price range that you set up in Ceiling/Floor.

Optimal Price:

  • Is not adjusted with your Rounding Rules.
  • Includes the tax percentage that you set up, if you are in a country with tax-inclusive pricing.
  • For properties with non-room supplements, does not include the cost of non-room supplements.
  • Is calculated from Offsets for room types that are not the Base Room Type. If you do not use Offsets, the Optimal Price value is the same for all room types in the Room Class.
Out of Order The number of out of order rooms at the property level.
Room Only Price The Final Price without Supplements.
