Business Analysis Dashboard

The Business Analysis dashboard helps you monitor G3 RMS. You get a daily view of key business data and the system's forecasts and decisions. You can also drill down for more details and use links to pages where you can, if necessary, make changes to the forecast and decisions.

What Questions Do You Have about the Business Analysis Dashboard?

Dashboard Steps

Accessing the Dashboard

Click and then Business Analysis.

Changing the Monitored Period

Your date selection applies to all tabs. You can change dates in several ways:

  • Click the button to select specific dates.

  • Click the double arrows to move to the same period next or last year.

  • Click the single arrows to move to the adjacent periods of the same length.

  • Click and drag the end points on the day slider to change the period.

Viewing Data

View by Inventory Group

If you set up Inventory Groups, you can select one to see the data only for its defined Room Classes. The default selection is Property, or all Room Classes. You can change the default selection in Preferences.

Remove Excluded Segments

Select the Remove Excluded Segments checkbox if you want the metrics to exclude business from specific market segments. This option is available if you defined the excluded market segments in Manage Property Information. And if you use Inventory Groups, you must select the Property level.

Best Practices

Review Explanations for Data Discrepancies

If you have questions about differences in the data between G3 RMS and other systems, review one of the following topics:

Last Year's Booking Pace is Missing

This scenario applies if you're in your first year of system implementation, and your reservation system provides incomplete historical data. When that occurs, last year's pace looks like a blue triangle with a straight line from zero days to arrival to the final occupancy for the monitored period. For more information, review Pace Data Missing for Last Year.

Data Differences between Reporting Levels

If you have questions about variations in data between different levels, for example, between the property and Forecast Group levels or pickup between rate code market segment level, see Data Level Differences.

Pace Data Differs between G3 RMS and Daily Extracts

If you find data variations between same time last year (STLY) in G3 RMS and other systems, see Pace Differences.

Pace Data Differs between IDeaS Systems

If you're transitioning from IDeaS RMS to G3 RMS, review Pace Differences between IDeaS Systems.

Use the Dashboard in Your Revenue Management Meetings

Most clients have regular meetings when the revenue management team discusses strategy, pricing, yielding etc. In your meeting, instead of printing reports, project the Business Analysis dashboard on a screen. To view a checklist about how to use G3 RMS in your meeting, click the PDF button below.

Do Not Use G3 RMS Forecasts for Financial Forecasting

The occupancy and revenue forecasts in G3 RMS should not be used directly for financial forecasting. The primary purpose of the system's forecast is to produce the best possible decisions. The level of detail required for that purpose can sometimes reduce the accuracy of property-level forecasts. For example, when the on books values for a very high-value room type change, the property-level revenue forecasts might change considerably. Consider G3 RMS forecasts of occupancy and revenue as useful inputs to the financial forecasts, but not as the only driver of financial forecasts.

You can review significant differences in occupancy forecasts between G3 RMS and your financial reports. Include that in your Regular Task of reviewing the forecast and consider what G3 RMS knows, share what you know, and tell the system the truth. Understand that changes to G3 RMS forecasts occur for a variety of reasons, for example, when unexpected bookings or cancellations occur.
